I wrote a poem based on this quote just last week. Since the moment I heard this quote, it resonated with me. It’s so incredibly true. So many people live their lives in a grey cloud. Getting up in the morning, completing the routines of the day like robots. Forgetting to look around. Never pausing to stop and find the little joys in each task. Walking around all day saying “I have to do this” and “I have to do that.” Instead of “I get to do this”, “How blessed am I to be able to do that”.
We get so busy in this existence that we neglect the things that bring us dopamine. We get so focused on the to do lists, fitting in with society, working towards the next big materialistic goal we lose ourselves. I think it’s why so many people struggle with their mental health. We were not built to be robots. We were built to live. Our brain craves interacting with others, creativity, nature, seeing new things, open spaces and yet society jails us in a sepia colored existence.
Take some time today- write a list. One column- things you enjoy doing; the other column- the things you actually do all day. I bet you there is a dissonance there. Work on it. Start harmonizing your columns. Start living, instead of just existing…
so nice.
That’s why we love Wilde so much! A legacy of great thoughts. Thank you for sharing.
